Session 4: Capstone Panel: Practical Considerations for Combining Machine Learning and Interactive Visualization (4:20 – 6:00)

As this year’s VAST Challenge submissions illustrated, users must think critically about machine learning model results in order to reach meaningful conclusions. Data are often incomplete, and interpreting data signals requires understanding of context. Even the best models have weaknesses and uncertainties, which must be made clear to the user. As the landscape of available machine learning techniques is rapidly evolving, how do we enable non-data scientists to correctly use and interpret more sophisticated analytics?

This panel will focus on practical considerations for effectively combining machine learning and interactive visualization.

Panelists:
Neesha Kodagoda
Eli Brown
